A Domestic Guide to Home Cooking

After dealing with her girlfriend’s attacker, a stubborn young woman copes in the only way she can - by making pancakes.

This short film was made on the April 2023 BFI Film Academy Craft Residential Course. The course is produced by the British Film Institute (BFI) Film Academy in partnership with the National Film & Television School (NFTS).

How to be Human

Lewys is someone who just can't seem to get life right. He seems to be stuck in a constant Groundhog Day where he is convinced that everyone else has been given instructions that he doesn't have.

After waking up late once again for a job interview that goes wrong, he seeks comfort in a friend, Maria. She convinces him to go out for a drink, however, Lewys ends up drinking a little too much and freaks Maria out, leaving Lewys sat at the table, alone, clueless and covered in wine.

He just can't seem to work out How to be Human

Amateurs

A documentary crew follow a group of amateur actors as they get together to put on a play in their local village hall. When they come face to face with accidents, pranks and possible romances, they all start to see the reality of what it’s really like to put a play on.

This film was made as part of my coursework in the second year of my A-level. With a free choice of genre, I felt that I wanted to explore and make something that is often deemed less creative and important within the industry. It was filmed over one day in August 2023 with a second episode in progress that was filmed in October 2023.

Lost and Found

When a man goes for a walk along the seafront, his hat gets blown away by the wind. He finds himself lost trying to find it once more but once he discovers it lying on the beach, he realises that maybe it is the little things in life that really matter.

This film was created to help aid my application to the BFI Film Academy. Its use of sound design and music helped me to get my place as a sound recordist and designer on the course. It was created in one day with my DSLR camera and edited on Premier Pro in January 2023. The music used in the short film is 'Ramblings of a Lunatic' by Bears in Trees.

The Last Adventure

Not every story has a happy ending. Especially when it's just you and your three friends left. When the world is crashing down around you, what would you do to survive? For Jess, Jack, Kris and Matt that is just their reality. Follow them as they go through forests and fields trying to survive. But maybe surviving isn’t the only thing they should worry about.

The Last Adventure was made in March 2023. It was the first short I created as part of my A-Level coursework and my first deep exploration into all the aspects of filmmaking. I was interested to explore how a horror-like film could be created on a minimal budget and how that would effect the outcome. The Tree

An exploration of stop motion animation and sound design in short format. This was created in an hour and a half during a lesson and edited in the next lesson. It was an interesting exploration into how we use sound design from different objects in order to create the sound of something else. For example, I used the sound of a creaking door closing in order to make the sound of the tree falling.

An Outing to the Shops

This a stop motion animation and sound design exploration that I created outside of class in order to explore my knowledge and skills further. I used Playmobil and different coloured materials in order to create the action and background. This was really interesting to do as it took me almost 5 hours to create but only created a 13-second clip

Mixed Media
This workshop was our first exploration into animation mixed with moving images. I used a clip that I had previously filmed and created a background to go behind it, I then took every 4th frame to create a more 'animated' style.
